Presentation 2

Portugal

They are conservative and reserved. The way they express themselves is polite but direct and the volume of their speech is a bit loud.

It is frowned upon to be late, but a delay of more than 15 minutes is considered late.

It is important to greet each other: men shake hands and, if they are confident, hug each other. Women only kiss each other on the cheek.

If you are invited to a house, bring a small gift, such as chocolates or flowers.

Spain

Compliments: Spaniards generally greet each other with two kisses on the cheeks, starting from the left. Among men, handshaking is more common.

Meal times: Adapt to late meals. Lunch is generally served between 14:00 and 16:00 and dinner between 21:00 and 23:30.

Siesta: Respect the siesta period, generally between 14:00 and 17:00 when many businesses close.

Clothing: Dress more formally than you would at home. Avoid wearing very casual clothes in restaurants and public places.

Punctuality: Although Spaniards are known to be more relaxed with schedules in social settings, be punctual for professional appointments.

Gifts: When visiting someone at home, it is polite to bring a small gift, such as flowers or a bottle of wine.

Personal space: Spaniards tend to keep less physical distance during conversations than in other cultures.

Tips: These are not mandatory, but are appreciated. 5-10% is considered appropriate in restaurants.

Colombia

The most common greeting, both socially and at work, is to shake hands. The handshake is a short and energetic gesture. If we know the people we are greeting and we have a certain confidence, we can choose to give a hug for men and a kiss or two for women.

Beware of vulgar gestures and actions such as yawning, picking your nose, sticking your finger in your ears, scratching certain parts of your body, etcetera. If we have to yawn or sneeze, we should put our hand in front of us or use a handkerchief.

Do not point with the index finger but with the whole hand. The best way is to do it with the open palm of the hand.
